It was a successful weekend for MTB World Champion Puck Pieterse 🇳🇱 in Leogang 🇦🇹!! On Friday, she won the short track race with an explosive attack halfway through the race. On Sunday, she dominated the Muddy Cross Country Olympic race. Her attack in the first lap was unanswered, and after an almost faultless race, she took the win!

The Giro has treated us to quite the spectacle the past few weeks! Mexican talent @isaac_deltoro_romero1 🇲🇽 was in the lead for nearly two weeks, but ultimately lost out to Simon Yates. While Del Toro is a full on road rider now, he made some of first European steps in cyclocross! In the 2021-2022 season, he raced the Tabor and Koksijde world cups before finishing 20th at the U23 world championships in Fayetteville!

He obtained a minor avulsion fracture in his wrist, and will not travel to the planned altitude camp in La Plagne for the time being 🤕 In the women’s U23 category, Ava Holmgren 🇨🇦 won the XCC race ahead of her twin sister Isabella. In the XCO race, Bella Holmgren was leading the race but suffered a nasty crash on the rockgarden. Cyclocross at the Winter Olympics? ❄️🚴‍♀️

After months of silence, the push to get cyclocross into the 2030 Winter Olympics is back in the spotlight. Michel Barnier, a key figure in the Olympic organizing committee, recently told L’Équipe he supports Cyclocross becoming a demonstration sport in 2030. He thinks stars like Van der Poel, Pidcock and Van Aert would be a great addition to the winter games. The potential for riders to medal at the summer and winter Olympics is especially appealing to him.

Besançon has already come forward as a potential host venue, leveraging its experience with the World Cup. However, the lack of guaranteed snow at the venue could be a challenge. Current Olympic rules state that winter sports must be held on snow or ice, and it’s unsure if cyclocross is granted an exception.

Cyclocross is not the only sport seeking a spot on the Olympic program. Speed skiing, ski mountaineering, ice cross, telemark, and cross-country running, all hope to become Olympic as well.
